Nunu, I learnt a lot about your culture from your display. There were two objects that particularly stood out for me; the metal iron and the sandals made of motor tyre rubber. I am one of the many black kids who have had that iron in their households and can relate to your story. That is an object I honestly didn’t expect to see in anyone’s display. Before we started using the electric iron, during those days when we had a coal stove at home, we used that kind of iron. As heavy as it is, it is a great piece of classical technology and it gets the job done – and to a certain extent, it does a better job than these electric irons of these days. That heavy metal iron never broke, it never had issues with clothes burning and sticking on the metal part, it was basically easy to maintain. The only downside I can think of is that it was susceptible to rust. The sandals reminded me of the ones my dad bought me when I was about 7 years old. They ended up hurting me because of the nails on the side, but otherwise they are very strong shoes and a nice work of art. Well done!
